《边缘人》是根据编剧的亲身经历创作出来的。剧中农民工随迁子女，小主人公楠楠从农村走向城市,寒暑假再返回农村，在城乡之间不停地转换。在生活于农村的人看来,她已是“城里人”，在城里人看来,她仍是“乡下人”,而对于她自己来说，无论是在知识基础、文化背景、学习能力、生活习惯和心理特征等方面与城市学生都有着较大的差异。农民工随迁子女——因身兼城市和农村两种截然相反的生活方式的特征，在其成长和受教育过程中，存在着不同程度的经济、社会、文化和心理等层面的矛盾与冲突，这些问题应该引起社会广泛的关注。
